Only one Newbery Medal is awarded each year, a very prestigious honor.
This year's just-announced winner has local connections. The book, The Girl Who Drank the Moon, is written by Kelly Barnhill and published by Algonquin Young Readers, an imprint of Algonquin Books of Chapel Hill, a division of Workman Publishing. Workman Publishing in New York City owns Storey Publishing in North Adams, where Stamfordites Heather Tietgens and Caroline Burch work.
There is a copy, with its shiny new award sticker, in the library. Come on in.
